S&U On Tour } Sunday on Belle Isle

Belle Isle in Detroit is really a one of a kind place. It is a island in the Detroit River and is about 1.5sq miles. It has a greenhouse, sack slide, beach, fountain, a petting zoo, tons of fields and wood paths. It also has some pretty great abandoned buildings, like the old zoo, the Detroit boat club (both of those I've been exploring in) and the oldest Aquarium in the Americas that was recently shut down. It's sad but since Detroit has been more active with the island it is starting to really blossom again.

It was designed by the great urban landscape artist Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park, Prospect Park in NYC, tons of great parks in Chicago and Boston and all over the US. It truely is a beautiful island and fun to go to.

I also want to make a note of this:
I found out that night that a young girl, I think 16, drowned on Sunday on Belle Isle. She was swimming on the Canadian side of the island where the current is very fast and the freighters pass. I am upset that there were so many witnesses that did nothing when there are signs of "no swimming" for the reason of the fast currents on that side of the island (the beach is on the other side where the water way is narrow and current is slower). We need to watch each other and help people around us. I feel her death could have been prevented by the many, many people who were surrounding her.

My thoughts and prayers go to her family and am relieved to know her younger sister, who was also in the water, got to shore safely. Please let's not turn a blind eye when we see children and other people that are in danger or potential danger.

Dear Caught in Headlights

Kevin named this post for me.

Didn't get a picture until sunset so we used flash, I really like the outcome. I didn't wear the hat at work but it was perfect when I came home and sat in the backyard in my lounger reading using it to shade my eyes.

The hat is from when I was little when we went to colonial Williamsburg... It's my favorite place. I want everyone to have to dress up to go there, same with the Renaissance festival, wouldn't that be awesome if everyone was in period costume. You could just get lost in time travel. It would be amazing.

The shirt is also special, it was the blouse my grandma wore as her "honeymoon outfit", it's cream and have navy blue zoo animal silhouettes. I have the entire outfit which consists of a jacket, not a flattering form may have it altered, and it has the same fabric as the lining just the pattern is reversed color. And then had a long pencil skirt, which doesn't fit my height too well cause g-ma was 5'9". I love the entire ensemble, it's also sooo period.

Weekender Outift

Just a quick outfit post. I just got these shoes and jacket on sale recently and thought they'd look cute together.

The jacket I got from the BCBG Max Outlet store in Cinci, and I got it for $19!!! It was marked down from $258... I had to ask if it was written correctly. Deal of the Month, and it fits me quite well considering jackets are the hardest to fit me.

The shoes I got off a Anthro sale, been looking for some oxfords for awhile, but trying to find vintage for my big feet is too hard. I like the color too, great pop.

And theres a little glimpse of my living room, and my rocking record player, found that at a garage sale for 20bucks and it's worth upwards of $300, it's a 50's suitcase record player with perfect tube speakers. I love it.

And sorry for my sad looking face, it's the only picture with the full jacket effect. So, yeah, that's it!

Where has Lauren been?

Ohio!

My cousin and aunt from Alaska came into town (my hometown), and I got to meet my cuz's new baby, Brailyn. She was adorable, and it was great to hang out with my cousin in law? Matt and my Aunt Karen. Reminded me of all the chilling we did in Alaska last summer. I miss them, and wish we could go on more adventures... SOON!

The sisters and my twin cousin, we are so similar it's crazy.

The sisters, we really don't look much alike.

Parker, my nephew, feeding baby Brailyn.

Look at my great family, we all have a great tan, right? haha

This Old House

This is where we used to live
Broken glass, broke and hungry
Broken hearts and broken bones
This is where we used to live

Taking pictures in front of the house next door, which happens to be where Kevin and I used to live. We moved next door and the pipes burst so they decided to tear it down. All the holes are from the local firefighters training on it before the tear down happens.

It's kinda surreal to see everything I did in that house be ripped apart.

Blouse - Original Penguin  |  Pants - Grandpa's old Pants from the Navy in WWII  |  Blue Sandals - Aldo  |  Leaf Hoop Earrings - Target

And now a Kevin outfit! Look at him coming home from work...

Wedding Guest Idea

Is it still a no-no to wear a white color to a wedding?

I'm not sure on the shoes, I just have them already. I love the dress.

Baby got back

I bought this leotard for ballet a few days ago and of course grabbed the wrong size from the rack, and AA doesn’t accept returns no matter what on body suits… even at the next day open hour, I bought it right as they were closing. So I had to sew the crotch that went on forever so that it fit me. I’m becoming obsessed with backless shirts and dresses, I guess I just really like my back. So I decided just wearing the leotard might be a little inappropriate at my jobs so I finally got to wear the tank I bought a couple weeks back. I put this outfit together for the Academichic Blog’s Dress your best, where you pick out 5 parts you love about yourself and try to showcase them in at least one outfit this week.

I chose
1) Eyes
2) Back
3) Hair
4) Butt
5) Hands
