What I Wore: Ready Here I Come

Sometimes I feel silly having this blog, but when I think about it I'm proud to have it. I've had this particular blog since January of last year, and before that I kept up on my art blog regularly (when I had my finger on the pulse), or kept up with facebook photo albums or flickr. Going waaay back when I lived in Brazil I had a livejournal.

So one can say that I like to blog, to journal. And although this blog did not start as chronicling my outfits after a month or so it became that. Now I don't know much about fashion, but I know a great deal about sewing, history of costuming, and am a very visual person. Being wrapped up in the art world and illustration fashion and how you present yourself go hand in hand. And since I am not able to paint and draw as much as I used to, thinking of outfit combos and taking pictures of them (even if just by my mirror) gives me a glimpse of visual art during my day.

It has also been so therapeutic. Many days I don't even want to get out of bed, but getting up, fixing my hair, and putting a cute or ridiculous outfit on makes me feel better... more unique... more me. I may not have the best body or the best body image, but it doesn't stop me from wearing what I want. Because we're young, we should live fearlessly. Having an outfit get complimented that you thrifted or got off sales racks is a sense of accomplishment. Which I have currently felt lacking. There are other benefits to this world. I have never felt so supported as I do here. I can vent, I can share my struggles, and even when I loose followers and friends in real life, I gain so much more here in friendships and camaraderie, and am not judged.

So yeah sometimes I'm shy about this here blog, but not as much anymore. Because it may seem silly to some, but it offers a visual to my daily activities, so that I can dive back into that memory and feel it again. Just like how my grandma always remembered the dress she was wearing during important times of her life, I am putting a visual of myself into the history of Lauren Moyer... the Destroyer.

What does this rant have to do with what I wore? Nothing. I'm proud of my thrifted outfit (though I look very young and school girlish), these pictures, my blog, the fact I just did an hour of yoga (i'm all sweaty but it felt good), that I hung these three pieces in platform heels the other day, and that I got through one more day, no matter how crappy that day was.

Artwork by local artist Mary Rousseaux entitled "Summertime" epoxy and resin on board.

At Work: The Tutu Series

Two weeks ago on the 13th I curated a show at my gallery!

"the Tutu series: past and present works by Lenore Gimpert"

Lenore is one of our local regular artists whom the design community adores. Her work is seen all around the Detroit area as well as the Caribbean, NYC, and the north-east. I decided a couple months ago to throw together a show and try to get new people into the showroom. I was pleased with the turnout, and we had great food, and of course for her french inspired art we had pink champagne and macaroons! yum yum!!

And of course I also had to dress ballerina-esque! Too bad I forgot my pointe shoes. :)

I also designed all the posters, postcards, and tags; wrote the press releases and managed the social media outlets... The hardest part was my trip to San Fran was the week before the opening. So I had a week to paint and fill in all the holes in the main space in the showroom and hang everything. We had 29 of her pieces, as well as rehanging other rooms in the gallery to make everything flow together. It was a crazy week! But ending it eating treats and drinking champagne was worth it.

Man oh Man } Weekend 3.4-3.6

Well I accidentally deleted my outfit from friday, which was outfit 23... So I don't know if I'll just recreate it and snap a shot... grumble. I'm bad at getting shots of the weekend lately. But this weekend I did go to my flatmate's art show. So yeah I wore my remixed clothes and this is now outfit 23...

Jen is one of the most incredible artists I know. I don't even know how to describe her work. It's angelic but also demonic, natural yet unnatural. I don't know. Here are some pictures, you can decide for yourselves.

This is from Jen's Facebook page (picture not mine)

Check out this newspaper article featuring Jen (and photo by me!) here, and make sure to become a fan of her artwork on facebook!

Dressember Day2 & How to Put on a Sweater

Day 2!

I'm going to be a bit ridiculous in this post cause I don't have much to say.

First off yay for this outfit!

Look I'm shoving the world... and damn girl, look at that rump! I got a biggin'

I'm diving into the wave and then swimming, if it isn't obvious! :) And it is always good to wear bike shorts under your dress.

Oh look! Now I'm surfing that sweet barrel! Dude! Gnarly! Kowabunga!

Oh and here is my hand, admiring my ring.

Ok Lauren, put your sweater on and get back to work.

My Gallery pt.5

So I haven't done this is awhile, so here it is again. Rooms in my gallery! This is the 5th I think there are 4 more. It would be really awesome to take pictures in other showrooms with furniture and such, but most all the other showrooms are running by crabby ladies.

So this is usually the "Tutu" room because we usually have Gimpert Tutu paintings hanging up. But they are in other showrooms or have been sold off.

Well there really isn't much to say about this room, but the painting in the left corner of the pictures, the Maxfield Parrish-esque one, is from 1923 by a pretty well known photographer Kesseler who trained in painting. So that piece is pretty sweet.

So I'm wearing new clothes. Jen called me up on friday to see if I wanted to walk the mall with her after work. I hadn't seen her for a week pretty much, which is odd cause we live in the same house, so I agreed and we met up. But oh we just happened to be at Urban Outfitters when they were having a un-advertised 50% sale items... Droool. I love when you happen upon sales. I bought a dress (pictured), two long sleeve blouses (one pictured), two skirts, a knit vest, and a long sweater. Everything ended up being less then $15, most were $10.

I kinda feel bad cause my birthday is this weekend, but I couldn't pass it up. And of course I have guilt because yes I can make skirts and dresses, but not for less than $10 and I really don't have much time right now. And then also I should buy more thrift and vintage, but again I have no time, and vintage never fits my damn ribcage (that rant already happened in a last week post after trying on wedding dresses). So I mustn't feel guilty... There. Guilt's gone. haha. At least I only buy things on sale in stores. That counts right?

I was called Austrian, and german, and heidi-esque today, love it! Oh and my hair I loved, Kevin and I were looking through Charles Dana Gibson ink drawings last night in this book we got from the library (from 1906 nontheless! I want it!) And I decided that I'm a gibson girl. Long faced and long haired. haha
