Uber Casual

So yesterday I was going through my drawers running late and saw this shirt that I normally just sleep in. I got it in probably 4th grade from Humanitees, which was this thing they had kids sell and the proceeds went to the environment. So of course I had to have a shirt every year. But alas they were pretty expensive, I think I ended up getting two over the elementary years of panhandling these T-shirts. So after seeing so many people look great in this skirt and tee look I tried it.

I really liked it and felt like a kid again, which maybe isn't the best for work. My intern dresses better than me and it makes me look like the intern. Which I really dont mind unless its the young quite attractive man that is in charge of the Design Center who thinks that. Whenever I see him I'm always dressed down because I was doing actual manual labor in the gallery. I think most people come in are surprised that I am the Gallery Director cause I look like an intern. Oh well I guess you want to look young right?

Sorry for the kinda crappy pictures, I really wasn't feeling the picture thing yesterday.

But here are some other pictures of my cute dog and boyfriend!

After playing fetch in the yard yesterday afternoon Kev and I rode our bikes, with the dog in the backpack and me in shorts, around Royal Oak and then down to Ferndale, grabbed some sushi and seaweed salad then headed back home to lounge in lawn chairs on the front lawn. Then Mike our flatmate got home and Sara and Kyle stopped over and I undid all my exercise for the day with a scoop of chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I'm drooling as I think about it.

So do you have a favorite shirt from elementary that you still love to wear?

Nostalgia

It's the middle of the week and I miss things.... I don't know if anyone else gets this, but it always seems that Wednesday is the longest day of the week and in that boring time we look back to our fond memories and sigh. So here are three things, a person, place & thing I'm longing for on this miserable, rainy Wednesday.

My longer hair.

I don't know why I had the idea to cut it in December but now it seems to not want to grow back.
I've never really had short hair, it was once almost to my chin because I kept cutting it one night trying to get the right look. I've always been a long hair girl, I think it's the most manageable hair, and for my face shape it works. Now if only my hair would grow quicker!

The College for Creative Studies.

That was probably one of the best times of my life. I keep waiting to go back to class with all my buds. But two years has changed a lot, there are now two campuses, I don't know anyone who attends the school, and the worst and best is that many of my college buddies have moved away for jobs or home. It's so bittersweet. I want those days again but I know I can never have them. I just have to keep moving forward on to new adventures.

My Grandma

My grandma and I were very close, I would spend the night at her house all the time. We would go to the beauty parlor and I'd read while she got her hair done. Go to the grocery store to get some ice cream to eat with movies. Sit together and look through old photos late into the night. These were common instances for us up til I went away for college. And even with the distance we would talk almost every week. That summer after freshman year I lost her, and it still makes me so sad. But I cherish her and all my memories. What's great is that I can wear some of her favorite clothes and show them off to my friends and strangers, so I always have a little part of her with me.

Oh and I do also fit into her wedding dress, isn't it divine? She designed it herself and had it made with very limited fabric from France. She was incredible.

What do you miss on those long rainy, middle of the week days?

Memorable Weekend

I had a very filled weekend... And it was awesome, tiresome, but awesome

Friday started off as a half day at work (even though I went into the testing center for someone's shift in the morning) but by noon I was out of the gallery and off to home. Later Friday night Kevin, our flat mate Mike, and myself went downtown for the May Critical Mass. Kev and I decided to bring Tripp along for the ride in my hiking backpack. He loved it and everyone loved him. After the ride we all (meaning like 200 people) stopped by Motor City Brewing Works for a quick drink.

Then friday night Kevin and I drove the 3.5 hours home to Dayton, OH (my place of origin) to get some rest for the next busy day.

Saturday morning we woke up dropped the dog off at my Dad's and went to Kings Island, for those of you who don't know it's an AMAZING theme park outside the Dayton/Cincinnati area. We picked up some of my wonderful friends from highschool Mary and Leah and all had a blast figuring out the new names of the rides, Cedar Point just bought the park from Paramount, so you can imagine all the branding had to change. We got a little burnt and wet and tired, but overall it was incredible.

Can you see the Charlie Brown Stripes on the Eiffel Tower? Good Grief.

Then Sunday we woke up again early and packed ourselves in the car again and drove down to Louisville, KY to visit my friend Ashley, who I met when I lived in Alaska. She had been in Florida and was visiting her family there before driving back to the great white north with her folks. She is an amazing photographer that helped me with archiving my work from Alaska and taking some amazing headshots for me. Hopefully I will see her a ton more because she's moving down to Florida!! We went to a pretty rad car show in a very cute section of Louisville then hung out around the city for the rest of the day... But boy it was soooo hot...

An AMAZING Photo Ashley took of the three of us outside a beautiful church in Louisville, you can see some photos she took of the cars here and check out some of her great photos >> http://kandipixels.zenfolio.com/beatersville2010

And then Sunday night we drove back to Dayton where we fell asleep and slept most of Monday morning... And with that adieu, I don't have anything else to write.

S&U On Tour } Sunday on Belle Isle

Belle Isle in Detroit is really a one of a kind place. It is a island in the Detroit River and is about 1.5sq miles. It has a greenhouse, sack slide, beach, fountain, a petting zoo, tons of fields and wood paths. It also has some pretty great abandoned buildings, like the old zoo, the Detroit boat club (both of those I've been exploring in) and the oldest Aquarium in the Americas that was recently shut down. It's sad but since Detroit has been more active with the island it is starting to really blossom again.

It was designed by the great urban landscape artist Frederick Law Olmsted, who also designed Central Park, Prospect Park in NYC, tons of great parks in Chicago and Boston and all over the US. It truely is a beautiful island and fun to go to.

I also want to make a note of this:
I found out that night that a young girl, I think 16, drowned on Sunday on Belle Isle. She was swimming on the Canadian side of the island where the current is very fast and the freighters pass. I am upset that there were so many witnesses that did nothing when there are signs of "no swimming" for the reason of the fast currents on that side of the island (the beach is on the other side where the water way is narrow and current is slower). We need to watch each other and help people around us. I feel her death could have been prevented by the many, many people who were surrounding her.

My thoughts and prayers go to her family and am relieved to know her younger sister, who was also in the water, got to shore safely. Please let's not turn a blind eye when we see children and other people that are in danger or potential danger.
