Where I've Been: Ohio

A couple weeks ago I went down to Ohio to hang out with my mom who had the weekend off and get my car fixed. Saturday morning Tripp and I got up early and took a long walk through Hills & Dale park that behind my mom's house. I grew up in those woods and recently the cities redid the park and added some nice trails and a lake. It's really nice now, but sometimes gets crowded... It used to be the park of me and my friends, no one else would be around. I'm happy they fixed the park up but of course the nostalgia of what it was is now gone.

And just so you know I love taking pictures of Tripp on top of things... So be prepared for more pictures like this. It all started in Louisville when I put him on a statue, since then I've been obsessed. It's just so darn cute.

One of the mansions in my hometown... they have pet swans... yeah. swans.

The watertower by my mom's house, it makes a funny noise when you throw stones at it, and I think it looks like something from the old suerman cartoons, like the really old ones by MGM.

Tripp sitting on my mom's front porch... Soooo cute.

Ohio Weekend & Bon Voyage

Well this will be an epic post. Here are some image from this past weekend and Monday's outfit.

These pictures are from Glen Helen Nature Preserve. Its located in Yellow Springs and is incredibly beautiful. I first went to Glen Helen in 5th grade with my class, it was so much fun. I've been going back ever since but mainly only to the Yellow Spring. It's actually orange colored because of the high iron content, but the water is so refreshing tasting! This time Kevin and I decided to hike the entire glen mainly the pine tree forest. This was my favorite place in 5th grade and I haven't been back. I was surprised. It looked nothing like it did. There was so much under brush and so many trees had fallen from the hurricane winds Dayton got two years ago. It was so upsetting, I cried. I have carried this memory in my head for so long, and it was crushing. I of course had dreams for this place. Other than that the place was beautiful, a little run down (since Antioch College, who ran the place, went belly up. But they are reopening!) but we managed to walk the entire place which took around 4 hours.... When I went home to my mom's house I found my old 5th grade pictures from Glen Helen.:)

On Sunday Kevin and I lounged around until 4ish when we went down to Carillon Park to ride the bike path along the Miami River (little do people know the Miami are from Ohio and midwest states, why Florida named a city that, I don't know). We rode down to Miamisburg around 11 miles, ate some food, then rode back. On the way down we rode it in a little under an hour, the way back we rode it in 40min. I feel pretty good about that, there were even hills! So yeah we didn't get home to Michigan until 12:30a... Man we were tired.

And now for Monday's outfit, I'm showing it in this post because starting tomorrow I'm taking a blogger vacation. Kevin and I are off on our own adventure, and I STILL don't have a computer... So I guess perfect timing.

S&U On Tour } Miamisburg Mound

This weekend was super filled again... I have only had one free weekend this summer! I'm exhausted... On Saturday was the Royal Oak garage sale, which is held yearly in a parking structure and people just set up their booths. I got some great finds, a purse for $5, a romper for $1, some gifts for my mom and cousin. Kevin got an ammo box for my nephew and two shirts for $12. Then after spending the morning in the heat we napped before hitting the road for ohio to spend Sunday with my mom and step-dad's family.

Another group shot! My step brothers are the big dudes on the left, their arms are bigger than my head.

After the family function on the way back from my sister's, Kevin and I stopped at the Miamisburg Mound State Memorial. I've actually never been there which is surprising because it's literally 15 minutes away and on the way to my grandparent's house.

Ohio is known for it's Mounds, mainly Serpent Mound, which is not a burial mound. The Miamisburg Mound is the tallest Mound east of the Mississippi and currently measures 65ft tall, it was once 68ft or taller.

Archeologists believe it is a mound built by the Adena people, a prehistoric native culture who's origins are unknown, and are now known more as the Mound Builders because of their earthworks and burial mounds. They lived in the Ohio river valley around 1000-800 BC and were the first people in the region to domesticate food and were at that time pretty far beyond other cultures in the US.

The view from uptop was amazing, the mound is built on a 100ft bluff looking over the Miami River. You can see so far, I could see downtown Dayton. I'm sure if it wasn't sooo humid that day you could see ever farther.

Don't forget about my GIVEAWAY!!! It's open until Thursday! Enter!!!

Memorable Weekend

I had a very filled weekend... And it was awesome, tiresome, but awesome

Friday started off as a half day at work (even though I went into the testing center for someone's shift in the morning) but by noon I was out of the gallery and off to home. Later Friday night Kevin, our flat mate Mike, and myself went downtown for the May Critical Mass. Kev and I decided to bring Tripp along for the ride in my hiking backpack. He loved it and everyone loved him. After the ride we all (meaning like 200 people) stopped by Motor City Brewing Works for a quick drink.

Then friday night Kevin and I drove the 3.5 hours home to Dayton, OH (my place of origin) to get some rest for the next busy day.

Saturday morning we woke up dropped the dog off at my Dad's and went to Kings Island, for those of you who don't know it's an AMAZING theme park outside the Dayton/Cincinnati area. We picked up some of my wonderful friends from highschool Mary and Leah and all had a blast figuring out the new names of the rides, Cedar Point just bought the park from Paramount, so you can imagine all the branding had to change. We got a little burnt and wet and tired, but overall it was incredible.

Can you see the Charlie Brown Stripes on the Eiffel Tower? Good Grief.

Then Sunday we woke up again early and packed ourselves in the car again and drove down to Louisville, KY to visit my friend Ashley, who I met when I lived in Alaska. She had been in Florida and was visiting her family there before driving back to the great white north with her folks. She is an amazing photographer that helped me with archiving my work from Alaska and taking some amazing headshots for me. Hopefully I will see her a ton more because she's moving down to Florida!! We went to a pretty rad car show in a very cute section of Louisville then hung out around the city for the rest of the day... But boy it was soooo hot...

An AMAZING Photo Ashley took of the three of us outside a beautiful church in Louisville, you can see some photos she took of the cars here and check out some of her great photos >> http://kandipixels.zenfolio.com/beatersville2010

And then Sunday night we drove back to Dayton where we fell asleep and slept most of Monday morning... And with that adieu, I don't have anything else to write.
