Mourning Her Brave

N.C. Wyeth - Mourning Her Brave

Even though I am not wearing a similar look I am truly feeling this image, it's cold and white here. This was what I wore on friday and as I type, on monday, it's our 8th day in the row that the temperature has stayed below freezing. Yeah it's cold.

I also have a drawing of this outfit, I will post it later. I am trying to draw my outfits, let's see how long that lasts. :)

This weekend was amazing! I will tell you more on it later but it does consist of an abandoned church, a red cape, and burgers.

Dressember! & How to Change Art

So I hopped on a band wagon!! Wowzers!

Blythe from the blog Blythe Hill is doing a second annual Dressember where you wear 31 dresses... Well I have never restricted what I wore but I thought it would be a good challenge since I have a ton of dresses. I know already I may stretch the rules like wearing a skirt and a dress, a dress as a skirt, etc. But I think it'll be fun to reinvent how you wear dresses and keep it fresh, I'm sure I will pull inspiration from the Uniform Project. And I think I am going to go for the gold of a different dress a day... I just counted 25, I probably have 5 more stashed somewhere :)

Here's my first day, December 1st. And who knows I might have already broken the rules... shhh! The skirt I have over the dress I was afraid may be too short and the colors in it went so well with this dress. I think they look amazing together! I'm so happy with this outfit! And the skirt is Ebony's from Ebony and Ivory via our Here to There exchange!!

The earrings were my birthday present from my amazing friend Marlee! I love them!! She sometimes lurks around on the blog leaving comments, hehe. She's in SF so I hardly see her, but we've been friends since 7th grade, even though we met at a band concert in 6th grade, we played flute!

Also as you can see I'm showing you what I do... I change art. Look at that! It's really hard. And now look at me dance!

Etsy Coupon Code and some Here to There

Nothing much to talk about today, worked, wrote, did some other stuff... Got together with Miss Sam to get a giveaway ready... That's right a giveaway! When is this giveaway? Well my dears you will just have to wait and see. haha! But I can say it is fashion related!!

Anyway, the outfit. Dress is Sara's via the Here to There swap, and the shirt was my b-day present from Sara! I've worn it so much already!!! She also gave me a dress that I wore on monday... but didn't take a picture. Sorry! Oh and sorry about the quality of these pics... it's my point and shoot, and was dark by 4p here, wha? And all rainy.

And starting today, posting tomorrow I'm starting Blythe's Dressember challenge to wear dresses everyday of December. Which I just found out about pretty much today through Katie of Tinda Keelie.

I'm still going to do my 12 days of Christmas as well, so those pictures may be breaking the rules, but I will also post my dress outfit for the day (cause I think some of my 12 days outfits may be too ridiculous to actually wear) Oh and you girls that said you want to participate in the 12 days please email me {sparrowandurchin@gmail.com} or leave your email in the comment!!

I'm excited, but I know I'm not going to be as true as some, because I have another project for the month!

Now time for my own self promotion. For the month of December I'm offering 15% off on my etsy shop when you use the coupon code HOLYDAYZ! Give the gift of art! And support the arts!

Early Chirstmas

Well today (Saturday) I've done quite a bit, still having some more research to do, been studying, and Kevin and I bought our selves a early chirstmas present with a coupon he got for running the detroit marathon. As some of you readers know, I am a big bike rider. I love it. And I found out the my femur proportion to the rest of my leg is ideal for a good bicyclist (my thighs are much longer then my lower leg... which gives me long legs but sometimes they look stumpy... haha). So this is what we got!

We hooked my canondale up to it and now I can ride my bike whenever I want. And it's really easy to set up. The hardest part is you have to change you back tire to a smooth tread, so it isn't noisy. We bought the fluid based one because it gives you the most feeling of road biking. Now I can bike everyday through winter without having to get so bundled up!! I'm so excited, especially since it's now getting a little too cold to run outside.

Anyway this dress is from Sara via our Here to There swap. For all the new readers it's a swap the Sara and I are doing with two of our girlfriends in Australia, Ebony of Ebony and Ivory, and Chloe of Butterfly Cupcakes and Daffodils. And it's great cause Sara and I live a block away from each other it's so easy to switch clothes. And Chloe and Ebony just got their packages from me! I'm so excited! I don't even remember what I sent them haha!

Rescuers Down Under

I loved that movie growing up!

Well I'm sad to see this dress go home, but Ebony needs it! It's summer down there. So in the morning I took some pictures of how I would wear it if I was going to the beach. Minimal clothing, haha. And then got ready for work and the harsh reality... It's cold outside.

Sadface.

I mean sad bow.

Yeah and camera angle in wonky I know cause I just propped the camera up on books... mountains of books!

Erg

Well these pictures are from Friday, for some reason I wasn't able to load them on Kevin's computer so here they are late.

Friday started out to be an ok day and then it just got worse and worse. I was informed my external harddrive isn't able to be fixed the usual way with computers and programs and whatnot. Nope, how WesternDigital redesigned their hds, the drive would have to completely take apart and rebuilt to maybe retrieve data... maybe, no guarentess. And this would cost anywhere from $699 to $2000. So you can imagine I'm cutting my losses and demanding my money back and not wasting a single penny on this brand new hard drive that died in one month. Luckily I still have artwork data on my old harddrive, so I most likely only lost newer stuff, like pictures from this year, movie/music, etc. I think I have all my artwork files, which is really what matters. I'm looking at starting to store a lot of my important files on my web server since I have alot of room and it can't corrupt and die.

So if this wasn't bad enough, towards the end of the day an artist came in fuming angry at the gallery. He was cussing and screaming that we owed him money and we knew nothing of the business. He was upset about how little money he got from renting a piece to a movie, but we told him from the begining all the figures. See, the movie industry has been big here so we've been able to provide artwork for set dressings because it's easier to get artist releases through us because we feature local talent. Well we contacted this artist and told look rental is only 5% of the pieces retail value and we then split it. So you can image you don't get much but you get your piece in a movie. I don't think that people realize that movies have really tight budgets, especially for art and accessories for sets. So people assume oh movies, I'm going to make tons of money... Nope. And we've always been upfront with our artists. But most movies filmed here have $500-1000 for artwork and accessories for the entire movie... yeah. Not a money maker but great for your resume, and just that can increase your artworks value.

But nope, he wanted nothing to do with us. I offered to show him paperwork from the film studios, what we were paid, but nope he just wanted to cuss me out and storm out with the rest of his work, leaving me standing dumbfounded. But oh well, it happens. Thank god that April, one of our glass artists, was there to write him off for me, I know if I was along in the gallery I would've been more upset. It sucks getting yelled at even when you know the person is wrong. I know that we didn't do anything wrong, and as a gallery we have always put our artists first. I mean we've been in business since '89 which is really good in this area. I think my boss know what he's doing.

So that was friday, it ended well with me going down to ohio for an Amazing weekend. More on that tomorrow. Here's the last of me styling Chloe's crop top, and here is how it's been styled so far.

P is for Blindingly Pale

So I wore this number on Thursday. We had a big presentation in the gallery so I wanted to be cute but also comfortable since the presentation involved carrying artwork. I also had to clean up in the morning. This outfit proved to be versatile in allowing me to get my work done. It was great for a super busy day at work... I even forgot to have lunch it was that crazy. Oh and sorry for the eh photos, Jen was using my point and shoot and for some reason they all turned out very washed out and blurry, oh well. And as you can see this is the last time of me styling up Ebony's skirt. Now it's on it's way back to it's homeland. Bye comfy skirt! Here are the styled ways so far!
