Sailor, Sailor

What's this?! Another post? In ONE week! Yep that's right! Summer's almost over, but I still have so much to share about it! I started sewing again and getting used to the machine that Mike got me two christmases ago. It's a super old machine that can only do a forward straight stitch, just the basics, all you need. I got this adorable pattern from etsy, and decided to make view 3.

It turned out really well, just a bit boxier than I'm used to and the most common issue I always have, a very loose bust. Oh well, never going to get boobs... deal with it. Anyway my mom sent me some amazing vintage fabric, and I used a mint light weight cotton. It's really comfy and I wear it all the time! I love it... and yes I've worn it on the sail boat... I could totally do an entire months of posts of Nautical design, clothes, and trips.... Should I do that?

A Fashion Realization

Last week I earned a new nickname at work... Miss Frizzle. Then I realized, yep I am Miss Frizzle. I love patterns and animal prints, bright colored dresses, wearing my hair red, and coordinating my outfit to my activity, also of course being way too excited about things everyone else rolls their eyes to. But thank goodness I am not a teacher, haha!

How did this realization and nickname come to pass? With this outfit:

I have been eyeing these pencil shoes for over a year and they kept getting sold out so quickly... But now i have them!! Bwahaha! And of course I have to pair them with something else loud and obnoxious like this skirt I made with some scrap fabric

And last but not least... Dr. Who/Miss Frizzle fan art?1 WHAT?

2012 in clothes

So yeah yeah, I'm awful at keeping this blog up to date. BUT I do have plans that I've been working on to showcase all my design, art and adventures. I'm really excited. I will never forget how this blog started with my daily outfit... man it's been three years since I started this blog... damn. So here is a tribute to that with a round up of some iphone/instagram pics taken mainly in my work bathroom of my clothes. I've had so much fun having a spending income to reinvent my wardrobe. My favorite purchases have definitely been my glasses.

And I've been keeping my hair red. I love it, although I do miss my blonde hair, fortunately red fades back to blonde quicker then I'd expect.

So here you go, bunches of clothes and shoes... my shoe collection has become insane.

I'll have a year and holiday recap coming up too!!

What I Wore: How to Dress

Of course living in a new place not knowing the weather patterns and people, or have a reason to dress or the fact I have a small wardrobe can make you feel like not dressing up. But this is how a dress on an average day and the steps I take to not wear my birthday suit and look at least presentable in case a charming fellow walks my way... me tripping in front of said man or having any conversation ruins it though.

First start with a pattern and solid. Works everytime. Cover your nude body accordingly, today the weather was mild so I exposed my pastey legs, not everyone does.

10-30_2

Second, pick out how you will carry your necessities. Purses and bags work well for me, but we are all different. Shoes are good if you plan on walking anywhere other that your house, just in case there is any broken glass or bum pee lurking on the street. Then if you are feeling fancy you try out something called a necklace and bracelet. Can't really explain them but they should be in the dictionary... look them up.

10-30_3

If the day is warm you can carry you jacket in case the weather turns. That's was this looks like.

10-30_4

Then when it gets chilly you can put on that jacket mentioned previously and you'll feel toasty. Genius I know.

10-30_5

And that's how I determine what to wear daily. I know I know, you had to take notes it can be tough. Hope you enjoyed this lesson, a wall in my room, and my crookedly hung paintings.

What I Wore: All that Jazz

10-29_6

I'm not a writer. I don't feel like my wit and goofiness comes through these like black and white squiggles that makes wurds. But I do love sharing the experiences that I have with people and also use them to remember the fun I had. Last weekend I helped my boss put on a private concert featuring her partner Audrey's crazy talent. The gift of song. Man I wish when I sang I sounded like a purdy bird but all that comes out are squawks. Too bad. But this gave me the opportunity to wear a fancy dress, hang out in a beautiful mansion, and sway to jazzy music. Score.

10-29_2

I recently let Victoria of Justice Pirate borrow a bunch of dresses and I got them back in the snail mail the day before, best thing was is this beer tire sitting around my waist squeezed back into these tight numbers. Hurrah! Honestly I need get my waist under control. I love this dress, I got it last year for christmas from Sally Jane Vintage's etsy shop and I love it! It's from the 80's but cut like a 40's dress... I wuv it... Yep I said it again. Anyway I was running late and tried something with my hair. It turned out decent I guess, Oh well, but I call this hair style Hot Cross Buns... Yeah! I've been having too much fun with hair spray.

So in the beginning of the night I was the great and almighty gate keeper. It was fun to say who wasn't allowed and who was. I got to bounce party crashers left and right. Well not really, everyone was welcome! The concert was to raise money so that Audrey can record a cd, and the turn out was great. It was wonderful seeing people supporting someone they care about and the crowd was so pleasant. The day before my boss and I set up the entire house for the concert, it was great to see the musicians come in and watching the guest fill this beautiful house.

The music was soothing and wonderful, I swayed and swished to the music behind the crowd, ate fancy cheese and crackers, and sneaked around taking pictures. Audrey has a wonderful voice and her presence was perfect. She hit all the notes, made us giggle with anecdotes, and bobbed our heads to the jams by her bands. It was a great was to spend a Saturday night.

After the concert a few of us sped around rearranging the house to it's normal state. By the end of the night the house was back to it's original state, all the wine was drunk and cheese eaten, feet were tired, and ears were pleased. All in all awesome night, and I was happy to help with it.

Happy Halloweiner!

Well this halloween weekend was a lot of fun even though it wasn't filled with much ghoulish activities. Friday I went to a Halloween party but the night before had no clue what to wear. Luckily I with the help of a roommate I was able to throw this costume together, Alice in Wonderland!

Of course being bored I decided to curl my hair, unfortunately the curls fell out after a couple hours, why do my hairs not like curling?! I hemmed this dress that I got before moving, I think the length is much better. And I also ended up looking 12. I'm such a baby.

The party was pretty fun, lot's of great costumes! There was sexy male Princess Leia who was very good at dancing, Weekend at Bernie's complete with dragging Bernie around and getting him to dance to the treasure, Scooby-Doo, sexy green eggs and ham, Enzo/Matrix from Reboot, and lots and lots of pirates!

The rest of the weekend was filled with puppy walking, private concert going, and playing Settlers of Catan with the boys... More on that later.

What I Wore: Date Night

One main reason I moved out to Oakland was because of this girl... Miss Marlee. She's been my friend since 7th grade and is one of the purdiest, smartest girls I know. So smart she makes my brain melt. Anyway we went on a movie date night (a month ago, sorry I'm slow.) beginning with indian food and ending with the movie "My Idiot Brother". That movie was amazing.... It made me cringe and laugh because he is such an idiot. haha

What I Wore: Out Dancing

9-17-11
9-17-11_3

One of my first weekends here in the bay area consisted of meeting up with the boys for a night of Ethiopian food, jazz music, and then dancing in the Tenderloin. Of course we all four completely over dressed and tried our hardest to make complete fools of ourselves dancing. And we did. Mike's friend from highschool was in town and she managed to capture such epic action shots of the four of us. I have to say that Jim and Adam stole the dance floor that night. I also got to meet the tattoo artist, Henry Lewis, but I just said hi to him in passing, haha! I'm so excited for more fun times with these guys!

I was so excited to wear this dress out! I got it before I moved in Michigan and was on sale cause it had some stains... with just a little water the stains were gone... granted there are some grease stains but they are hardly visible! I feel like this is my first adult dress. So many of my vintage are cutesy 50's dresses but this I feel is more elegant. And what made the night even more perfect is that the bar was playing Motown for us to dance to. Perfect dress for it! I think eventually I will make this a backless dress... It's from Hudson's and was altered on the Shops on Woodward, I love old tags!

What I Wore & Did: Fleet Week

10-8-11_2

10-8-11_3

Well this past week in San Francisco was Fleet Week! Which is when lot's of navy and airmen are roaming the streets... and of course there's planes doing aerobatics and big ships. My buddy Jim called me up on Saturday and invited me down to the city to watch with him and the boys.

Of course we were talking most of the time, and after the air show was finished we elbowed our way to In & Out to get some munchies for oursevles. The weather was gorgeous and we all made ourselves comfy by Ghirardelli square... if only I had bought some chocolate. While we ate a falcon decided he was hungry too and swooped into the bushes near us grabbing himself a mouse morsel to eat and perching on the lamp post. It was a great park and day to be eating outside!

10-8-11_8
10-8-11_9

Soon we all sprang from our roost and made our way to a rooftop in chinatown. How we got there you can guess.... by walking. We sat and watched the sun set and yelled at the moon for being early. "Go back to the night! You don't belong here!!" We all parted ways, half staying in SF and half barting it back to Oakland.

10-8-11_14

But that's not all! On Sunday I met back up with ole' Jim to go look at the ships. Of course our early start actually became a late start and the lines for the ships had grown very long. So we made ourselves content at looking at the battleships from a safe distance. We walked up and down the piers and tried to sneak a peek at where the Exploratorium is moving (Jim works there and is excited for the move to pier 15). So we ate and took the obvious pictures of us in front of boats, and tickling tug boats naturally. Then we hugged and I crossed the bay to come home to a snuggle puppy.

10-9-11_3

I'm really excited to have worn one of the dresses I bought at the flea market. It was so warm, some of the day I didn't need my cardigan! Thought I noticed waist seam is coming undone but that is a easy fix! I felt very colorful with the teal dots on the dress, my teal scarf, and my teal tights! So bright and fitting for fleet week! And I think this might be the first closeup of my Dooney & Bourke purse! I was going to sell it but some puppy decided to chew on the strap! But it's perfect for me and I also have a matching mini dooney purse too, I love Ohio thrift shops!

Anyway. Planes, ships, dress. My weekend.
