Events of the Weekend

This weekend was one of the best I've had in awhile. Friday after work, Kevin and I enjoyed a walk around Royal Oak where we ended having dinner at Cafe Muse, a small resturaunt on Washington that we had never been to. The prices were a little high, but since we weren't starving it was fine, and our waitress was a doll. Kevin had a soup and michigan salad, I had there mini sliders, which weren't like regular sliders at all, they were two tiny burgers with different toppings. It was so good. I haven't had beef in awhile, Kevin and I mainly eat chicken, and since it's been the New Years, some pork (german new years good luck food). We really hardly eat meat in general, hey there are only 4 canines in your mouth out of 32, so I feel like your diet should only be 12.5% or less meat (4/32nds), does that make sense? Haha, my weirdness shows!

As you can see I wore some shorts and tights. I'm trying out this new thigh high look, and I'm actually liking it quite a bit. Most of the outfit accessories are from the shopping with my left over gift cards from last week. I like the purchases a lot. And I love the little envelope necklace, when I put it on in the morning there was a note from Kevin in it, awwws ensued.

Anyway, afterward we met up with Sara and some friends celebrating her neighbors going away party'esque thing. She's moving to Hawaii, and we all are super jealous, I mean it's been below freezing here way too long! We all had fun playing shuffleboard at the bar and telling funny stories. The night ended with me and Sara climbing on top of the Caterpillar that sat on the rubble that used to be a neighbor's house. Sara of course fell on the way down, but thankfully she fell on the tread where there was give, thank goodness not on any of the super hard places. So here are the silly pictures of us acting very much younger than our age. Haha!

Saturday Kevin and I did wedding planning and a whole lot of nothing. Until the sun set at least. We soon bundled up and made our way to his cousin's new house for a house warming party. His cousin Eddie, is a fantastic musician, he is the lead singer/writer for the band The Sights, which are pretty big in the Detroit music scene. Anyway, his and his girlfriend's house is amazing! They are only the third owner, and I think he said the house was built in the 20-30's? But the previous owner had been there since '54. And he must've been paranoid because there were all these devices for protecting the house, generators, emergency plugs, motion sensors attached to bells, etc. I love houses like that, my sister Jennifer's old house had a bomb shelter, which probably originally was a root cellar or something.

So after the housewarming party we made our way to Dearborn, for my buddy Kristina's b-day party. I only have one photo from it before my battery died but I think it sums it up perfectly. Crazy.

And that brought us to Sunday, where Kevin and I slept in way way late and did nothing all day except watch a couple movies and make food for the rest of the week.

Yep, I live a glorious life... or this weekend was the most glorious in awhile.

On the 12th Day of Christmas...

My True Love Gave to Me...

Twelve Drummers Drumming!

So hey here is another musical thing. I can't play drums! These are Kevin's drums (well actually Vasille's, our friend), and I am not good. hahaha! Oh and welcome to my basement, mwahahaha!

Today I wanted to be a Sailor. So here it is. I was wearing a navy fedora earlier but the hat has been off for sometime. I am so nautical that I have two striped shirts on! And I grabbed a pair of my Gpa's WWII Navy pants to finish it, which was awesome cause I woke up to snow on the ground, and it didn't stop all day! I still need to let out the hem in the pants because I guess my Gpa's legs were shorter than mine (or it was the style... we'll never know!) My fish necklace finishes the outfit, don't know how "drummer-like" the outfit is but I loved it! And my hair was wonderful today too!!!

When I got off work I went to Target and Kohls to spend my gift cards! It's like Christmas again! I got a new purse, a new winter jacket, tights and socks, two pair of flats, a necklace, and a daily planner! After I met up with Kevin and his friend Dave for an appetizer. After that I ran over to Best Buy to pick up my Christmas present from my dad... a samsung blu-ray player with internet and netflix! It was on super sale and my dad got it for me!! Right now Kevin and I have already watched a movie and now I'm chilling watching some Psych... Aha! so funny!

And I've been talking about it... Here it is! My Christmas Present!

A BANJO!

I'm so excited! I've wanted one for awhile and when I was in Alaska I got to go to jam sessions with my aunt who plays mandolin, and I loved it when someone brought a banjo. I love the sound of them, and kinda been obsessed with banjo and bluegrass since highschool.

Ah!!! Too excited. I already have the music for dueling banjos so Kevin can play hi acoustic guitar with me. yay!! I've never been able to play guitar because the strumming motion felt un-natural to me. But I've played piano and flute for most of my life and felt that the picking motion for banjos would resemble it. And I think my finger memory is helping because it feels natural... The only thing I need to work on is holding strings down, haha. It's hard to hold 5 strings! Oh well when I get better I will show you video :)

Anyway the twelve days are over (sorry I missed one)! Tomorrow I'm going out for a drink to celebrate the Twelfth Night! Thanks for watching!

Artful Thought

I have decided to introduce more of my art into this blog, yet keep my art blog on my portfolio website as well.

Storks, watercolor, 2010
Photographed, I need to scan it in sometime

This was done for my past two person show in September. It's a small watercolor.

I really want to get inspired again. In 2008 I was cranking out paintings right and left, and even though I painted 18 pieces in 2009, 2010 really dwindled with the stress of two jobs. But now I'm only at one job and have been here a year so I think I can start leaving work at work and get more done at home.

On the 11th Day of Christmas...

My True Love Gave to Me...

Eleven Pipers Piping!

Here is one of my hidden talents. I play flute. Or I used to play flute a lot. Like I competed. Wasn't the best, but I was mediocre. So there you go. In these pictures I am playing an F. Hahaha. Oh and the dog is totally afraid of the flute.

I actually wore something different to work today cause I was tired and couldn't come up with an outfit this morning. As I thought at work this popped into my head. I feel like the scarf around the neck is very band camp like, and the shirt I'm wearing is the Penguin Camp shirt, so it's perfect!! I got these pants on super sale as well as the shoes, but I'm not sure about their place in my closet yet. I may return them.

And speaking of pants I went through all of mine today and separated the fat pants (the ones I wear now) from the skinny pants. I stored away my skinny pants only to be taken out maybe in April. We will see. I've begun working out again after a hiatus of a few months... I feel very schlumpy. I don't really want to loose a ton of weight but I would like to get back into my more muscular body, especially for the wedding. Who knows if I'll ever get out those skinny pants.

Oh I also have to share with you my Christmas present... oh soon, soon.

On the 10th Day of Christmas...

My True Love Gave to Me...

Ten Lords Leaping!

Again, why would I want leaping lords, and how can I dress like one. With vests! Haha, that was my idea, so I put on two! Really nothing special about this. I love wearing pants again though, but any of you girls with bigger thighs where do you shop? My biggest pet peeve are pants not being able to move but hen I hate how pants with elasticity become baggy after thirty minutes. Uggg. It's so aggravating, what's even more annoying is that I am young but I have a booty... I can't fit into juniors sizing, but it's hard to find the cuts I want in adult sizing, and then European cuts to pants... Where are all these women's thighs! Seriously. What's more annoying is that a lot of stores and brands are changing there sizing, like Levi's size change over the past summer. It's aggravating. I just want pants to fit me ALL day. Ok, ok... End rant.

I take that back... Why is it so hard to take leaping pictures? Really cameras! Well Kevin was using a point and shoot... I still haven't mastered the timed jump yet with the Nikon... oh well.
