Events of the Weekend

This weekend was one of the best I've had in awhile. Friday after work, Kevin and I enjoyed a walk around Royal Oak where we ended having dinner at Cafe Muse, a small resturaunt on Washington that we had never been to. The prices were a little high, but since we weren't starving it was fine, and our waitress was a doll. Kevin had a soup and michigan salad, I had there mini sliders, which weren't like regular sliders at all, they were two tiny burgers with different toppings. It was so good. I haven't had beef in awhile, Kevin and I mainly eat chicken, and since it's been the New Years, some pork (german new years good luck food). We really hardly eat meat in general, hey there are only 4 canines in your mouth out of 32, so I feel like your diet should only be 12.5% or less meat (4/32nds), does that make sense? Haha, my weirdness shows!

As you can see I wore some shorts and tights. I'm trying out this new thigh high look, and I'm actually liking it quite a bit. Most of the outfit accessories are from the shopping with my left over gift cards from last week. I like the purchases a lot. And I love the little envelope necklace, when I put it on in the morning there was a note from Kevin in it, awwws ensued.

Anyway, afterward we met up with Sara and some friends celebrating her neighbors going away party'esque thing. She's moving to Hawaii, and we all are super jealous, I mean it's been below freezing here way too long! We all had fun playing shuffleboard at the bar and telling funny stories. The night ended with me and Sara climbing on top of the Caterpillar that sat on the rubble that used to be a neighbor's house. Sara of course fell on the way down, but thankfully she fell on the tread where there was give, thank goodness not on any of the super hard places. So here are the silly pictures of us acting very much younger than our age. Haha!

Saturday Kevin and I did wedding planning and a whole lot of nothing. Until the sun set at least. We soon bundled up and made our way to his cousin's new house for a house warming party. His cousin Eddie, is a fantastic musician, he is the lead singer/writer for the band The Sights, which are pretty big in the Detroit music scene. Anyway, his and his girlfriend's house is amazing! They are only the third owner, and I think he said the house was built in the 20-30's? But the previous owner had been there since '54. And he must've been paranoid because there were all these devices for protecting the house, generators, emergency plugs, motion sensors attached to bells, etc. I love houses like that, my sister Jennifer's old house had a bomb shelter, which probably originally was a root cellar or something.

So after the housewarming party we made our way to Dearborn, for my buddy Kristina's b-day party. I only have one photo from it before my battery died but I think it sums it up perfectly. Crazy.

And that brought us to Sunday, where Kevin and I slept in way way late and did nothing all day except watch a couple movies and make food for the rest of the week.

Yep, I live a glorious life... or this weekend was the most glorious in awhile.

Abandoned Religion

On Friday Kevin, Lee, Kyle, Sara, and I went to an abandoned church for a party. I know I know, sounds bad, but there were some indie filmmakers making a movie it the space, with permission, and one of the scenes in the film consists of a party, so of course invite people down to Detroit to get your dance and drink on in a abandoned building, which is most of Detroit, and frankly the theme of many parties.

Unfortunately it was freezing, actually colder inside the church then outside, so the party was kinda a bust when we were there, but the lack of dancing didn't stop us we all went exploring through the massive catholic church and found most of it's nooks and crannies. Sorry about the poor quality in photos but the camera wasn't focusing well, but I actually think the unfocused quality is quite nice.

Soon we ended up in the balconies and found a ladder. Naturally Kevin climbed it and found the roof. It was gorgeous from up above the burnt out houses. You could see New Center and all the way to downtown, we were on the west side of town.

We then made our way back downstairs looked at the installation art that was also a part of the film and then tried to go to the basement. It was gross and looked like a bum's den. So I stomped my foot and whined so that Kevin wouldn't go in the basement any farther. It worked. And also the fact that his flashlight on his phone was dying helped.

Not wanting to go home we all packed into Lee's car, there were 5 of us crammed in his little 2-door, and drove to Midtown. We ended up at the Magic Stick, my old stomping grounds (literally, I lived on the same block) had some of their amazing Sgt. Pepperoni's Pizza and some drinks. Met up with a couple of our fellow illustration classmates from different years and talked the night away.

It was awesome. And what was awesomer was going home and falling asleep after a evening of fun.

Labor Day Cookout

I know I know, I'm very late on this post, but I've been uber busy lately, but I have a slew up posts queued up. haha! Well on Labor Day a bunch of friends came by and we had a good ole bbq. My friend Matt cooked up two chickens and some amazing beans, while my buddy Kristina made some amazing Sangria... Oh we also had some potato salad and beer... It was so good, I miss seeing my friends on a regular basis. Why does summer have to be over? And why is it so cold here in Detroit when it's warm everywhere else? Seriously it's been between the 60's and 70's. Usually it's still warm in September. Summer just all of a sudden left. :(

And a little cuteness for the end of the post, Tripp make nests out of sheets to sleep in... He's adorable.

This Past Weekend & Next Two Weeks Plans.

Oh this weekend was marvelous. It started with hanging out with my best friend Leyland and preparing for him and his twin brothers party. We got a keg from Motor City Brewery Work and I got my own growler of their Cider... I love micro brew cider! Then we partied the night away celebrating the twin devitos birth into the world. Erik (Lee's twin) got Lee one of the best presents I've ever seen, a flask with "Wombmates" engraved into it above a engraving of two babies hugging (which their brother Tony drew). I loved it, and would like to think I have some credit cause whenever I talk to Erik I refer to Lee as his wombmate. It was great, here are some pics of the crazy night of us acting like we were 21 and at a frat party. haha

The rest of the weekend consisted of laying around the house cleaning a bit but mainly doing nothing. I bought some new hiking shoes for this upcoming weekend and a camelback for my hiking backpack, and a new bcbg jacket for $16 at nordstrom rack.

My plans for this week is to get all my clothes together for my weekend up north, which I will do some posting on how to dress for outdoors, be utilitarian yet still cute. And then I also have to figure out what I'm taking to LA with me next week. Oh it will be crazy?

What are necessities you take when traveling?

Post Apocalypse Party

Last Night we went to the best Party I've been to in I don't know how long, our friend and fellow artist Tom Conrad, who also lives 4 houses down, is moving and had an epic party in the honor of his home. The theme was Post Apocalyptic, and pretty much everyone was dressed to the T. I can't believe how many people were there dancing the night away to the tunes of Kurty-Bird and the Boogeymen and late night tunes from DJ Mitch Manchild.

In any Post Apocalyptic World you gotta make sure you have your dog & man

Our friends show off the digs.

Dance Party with a ROBOT!

There even was live music & two dj's

Tripp fits perfect in my hiking backpack... I think this will come in handy in the future.
