My Darling Dirndl

First time now styling up the good ole' dirndl for the 30x30 challenge. I love this dress so much mainly because the amount of work it took to make it fit me. It was so worth it. The one thing is I pretty much style it the same every time I wear it. So this is my biggest challenge. I was going to wear a sweater today but it's starting to get warmer!!! I'm going down to Ohio this weekend and it's supposed to be in the mid 50's!! Yay! Kevin and I are going to meet with the caterers and eat, then meet with the cake bakers and eat!! Really I need to amp up the workouts.

Anyway I really like shooting in the back room. I think I've found my area (well I found it awhile ago). For workweek posts I'm going to try and keep this consistent. Or until it get nice outside and I can venture!

For our 6th Valentines Day

So our first valentines day together was during school... and during the middle of the week so we didn't do anything except snuggle and watch movies, and go out to Mexican town in Detroit for lunch which was one of our favorite places to go.

Our second valentines day consisted of going to Benihana which was extravagant for us, but Kevin had just gotten his first "real" art job and it was worth celebrating.

Our third valentines day Kevin and I are both racking our brains to remember, but I was going through my last semester at school so honestly we might've not done anything.

Our forth valentines day Kevin surprised me with taking the train to Chicago and spending the weekend there. It was awesome, we did a bunch of touristy things that we hadn't done.

Last year we stayed at the Inns on Ferry Street, beautiful victorian homes that were made into bed and breakfasts right beside where we went to school.

And now our sixth V-day. It started out with me getting flowers at work! I love it! You feel so old when you are sitting at your desk and a delivery guy comes in with flowers for you, so adulty. After work we took the dog for a nice walk, I gave him his gift. Lego characters that look like us and a Lego gift card, also a snazzy vest. Then we got all dressed up for a mystery dinner. We ended up at Saltwater at the MGM Grand Casino. With Detroit having three casinos I've actually never been to any of them, only Windsors casino across the border. But man oh man this was a fancy fancy dinner. We had our own little private nook with kinda couch like benches. Everything there was fresh and their menu changes everyday depending on what they got in that day. It was super pretty and fancy, and it's fun to treat yourself as a couple sometimes.

So originally I was going to wear one of the dresses I got for my bridesmaids, a light flowy green chiffon dress but as I reached for it this little pink number cried out to me (nope not on the 30x30 list!). You may recognize it from my preview of things I'm selling. I never really liked this dress on me, I'm not a fan of babydoll dresses or empire waists. So I decided to put a cardi over it and belt it. I loved how it looked. The ruffles on the front made it a tad bulky but also gave the illusion of me having a much greater chest, hehe. I paired it with a pair of heels I recently purchased because I had no just plain heel. They made my legs look amazing! But on the downside made me a giant. I never thought I was tall till I moved to Michigan but oh well. I'm getting used to being as tall or a bit taller then Kevin in heels, and also I'm now used to every woman in his family's height at my shoulder. (From pictures of me how tall do you think I am?)

Why does my head look huge?
Pictures by our lovely flatmate Jen

Anyway I felt awesome, and the food was awesome!! But seriously with all the b-day parties and valentines celebrations I need to give my stomach a rest, I think I've gained like 5 pounds. haha.

And as you can see there are some slight stains on the dress, they are rust drip stains. Do any of you have any ideas how to get them out? I've read about lemon juice and sale but have never tried it.

Events of the Weekend & Happy Vday

Well of course it was a busy weekend as always. Friday was a crazy busy day at work so the night was mild with me doing some personal work and cleaning a bit while Kevin was out with his buddies.

Saturday I went to a bridal expo with Jenny, Kevin's cousin's new fiance, and we went looking for ideas for her wedding in 2012. It was good for me to get some table ideas and such but most of the stuff that was shown there I already have.

And this is what I wore... Nothing crazy just something for walking around the expo center, that evening I switched the shoes out for my grey heeled booties.

Later Kevin and I drove to Ann Arbor for his brother's birthday dinner. We ate at Cafe Zola which was phenomenal. Ended the night with some coffee. We were supposed to drive to the east side after to go see a friends band but by the time we got back from Ann Arbor it was after 11 and we didn't want to drive another half an hour to east detroit. Oh wells.

Sunday consisted of Cat coming over super early and us taking some clothes pics for the shop. After she left for work Kevin and I got to cleaning. During the day I made green mint cupcakes and Kevin made a dinosaur skeleton (a present I got him over a year ago!). Of course we had to take pictures with Tripp cause it looks like him! Needing to get outside in the warm weather (it was 40 degrees!!!) Jen and I walked around Royal Oak and tried on some clothes. I got a pink scarf perfect for the season. Later we met up with Kevin for dollar burger night at Ye Ole Saloon a block from our house. (Oh and no outfit shot, I literally was in sweats all day until I was forced to put jeans on when Jen and I went out.)

And now HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

This morning I started my valentines day with a teeth cleaning, and being told I need to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Which is not a surprise to me since they are all the way in... I've put it off cause they've grown in correctly and they aren't hurting me. Oh well I need to do that during this open window that I DO have health insurance, thanks health care plan!! Now I'm just getting caught up on emails at work. Wore a little bit of red and pink for the holiday... But tonight Kevin is taking me out for a fancy dinner and I will tell you now that I will cheat the 30x30 because I'm wearing a dress that isn't in the mix, it was too dressy to put in the mix, sorry! But look my work outfit is 30x30!

Also thanks goodness, that BHLDN doesn't have anything I absolutely need. I was afraid once they released the line I'd want to redo everything I had planned... But nope! I love wedding dresses they have and the cover ups, but the occasion dresses left me saying eh... Oh well. Oh I do have a J Crew Bridesmaid dress in chiffon if anyone is interested, it's a size 6. I'll take pictures of it later! It's really nice just the wrong color for my bridesmaids.

Strangness

Work can sometimes make you do weird things....

Look I'm poking her!

Today I'm off to a bridal expo with Kevin's cousin's fiance. I'll probably update my outfits tomorrow!

Eh Outfit, Eh Day

So today Im trying to document my day at work... hopefully the flashing battery light won't mean I run out of juice... If so I'll just have to come back to it... Oh well. Anyway, nothing special about this outfit. I really loved this skirt but it accidentally got thrown in the wash so now it fit kind weird and shrunk a bit. *sadface* This is what it looked like before. It fit me so perfect! Now it's weirdly short... Wah wah!

Yep look at that butt, it's such a bubble, and you can see the edge of my blouse... I swear those aren't undie lines!

So yeah maybe I need to iron out the skirt and see if it starts getting better... Arg. I added it to the 30x30 remix because since it shrunk I hardly wear it, but it was kinda an expensive skirt so I really should try and figure out how to fix it... Oh well.

Also I wanted to show you a YEAR AGO ON THE BLOG.

Even though this was back posted (I added a few outfit back logs when I really started this in March), this was an outfit I posted on Weardrobe. It's fun to see where my clothes were at a year ago, and what's funny is this is still one of my favorite outfits, and a favorite photo. And this was the day after I got my Frye boots, as you can see I love them and they have been featured on this blog more than 25 times...

And now for FBFF Questions!!!

1. What color dominates your closet?

The dominant color is blue... I buy sooo much blue. But hey blue looks great on blonds! The second colors would be cream and pink. A couple years ago I went on a pink binge and I just finished my beige/cream binge. Next is green, especially mint green. Been buying everything in that color, mainly because it's our wedding colors :D I also have a lot of patterns, mainly in blues.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis
in your closet?

I would try and make sure I have ROYGBIV in my closet. The rainbow! Also focus on mixing neutrals, it's a very hard thing to do for me because I'm pasty and my hair is blond, I'm already a walking neutral.

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?

I don't really have one I just throw things together. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. Like I think yesterdays outfit works much better than todays.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

I really don't try. I kinda have to because I don't have much of a single color... other than blue.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color
into their wardrobe?

I love the neutrals that This Time is Grey has, which I know isn't color, but it's hard to make neutrals look good. Also like in This Time Tomorrow, Krystal has a knack on mixing neutrals wonderfully with a pop of color. I love Erin from CaliVintage's color combinations, I wish I had her closet! Also for color I love YeYe! Style Blog, Izzy has great bright, happy outfits!

And that's all folks.

Lauren
